Criminalisation forced Sex Workers to stay away to access health services

Some women leave sex work when they marry and have children - they want to live an ordinary life. But the 1949 Act means that they can be approached by the police at any point and live in constant fear of arrest. 

Under this law, it doesn't matter if they are a former sex worker, a sex worker or just a woman on the street - the police don't distinguish and instead punish all. 

Sex workers go into hiding, without support or access to vital SRHR services.

It is a black shadow that follows them all their lives.
